Welcome to Room 135's Web site!
Welcome to Room 135's Home page. This page will link you to many different educational Web sites that we use in our classroom. The students can use this Web site in the classroom, the computer lab, or at home! Also, click on the "Homework" page to stay up to date with your child's homework assignments.
If you have any questions or would like to contact me, Mrs. Stensberg, feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thanks for visiting our page and check back for more updates!
We have 15 students in our room this school year.
In order to make this the best school year yet for everyone involved, I want to stress the importance of open communication between home and school. Therefore, I’d like to explain some of the “tools” I will be using to keep those lines open.
The students have been given an assignment notebook. It will be the students’ responsibility to fill in any assignments not completed during work time in class. After checking that the work is completed, I ask that the parents sign and return the assignment notebook along with the class work the next day. There is also a section for any comments or questions you may have.
Students will have a HOMEWORK folder to organize their work -- one side for any homework to be completed and the other side for completed/graded work to be kept at home.

DT = Did Together

Please note: Treats for the class are always welcome! We will have a treat cupboard to store them in. The students' recess/lunch period is from 11:20 to 12:30 (with recess being first).
I thought I’d jot down a few highlights for each subject area. This may answer some questions that arise throughout the school year. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have (886-8010 or note in the assignment notebook).
Reading/
Grammar: The Scott Foresman reading series (new in the district the 2003/2004 school year) includes a practice workbook (supporting reading skills), a grammar workbook, and a phonics workbook. Daily Comprehension sheets are used daily as extra/challenge activities. They can serve as extra practice at home (do not need to return to school). D.O.L. (half sheets) will be completed independently by the students, and we will correct them together daily.
Spelling: A spelling list will go home the beginning of each week (only the weeks with 4 or 5 school days). We will plan on having the test on the dictation sentences and the cloze story on separate days (the last two days of the school week). The weekly parent letter for spelling does not need to come back to school. It is great practice for skill review.
Math: The Houghton Mifflin math series was new the 2006/2007 school year. Daily lessons usually include completing a book lesson together when discussing a new skill or concept. The “practice” worksheet for the lesson is completed independently and graded. The “homework” worksheet will be sent home for homework review and handed in the next day. End-of-the-chapter tests are graded. The students will us "Math Facts in a Flash" to practice and assess their math facts automaticity. Math fact practice can be done with the use of flash cards, a regular deck of cards, or a pair of dice. Basic math skill sheets (half sheets) need to be completed at home if not completed during the school day (and returned to school).
Social Studies: Together, we will learn how to locate answers in a textbook, at times completing worksheets together the first quarter. Students will take their books home 2 nights when studying for a test – test dates will be noted in the assignment notebook.
Science: As in Social Studies, we will learn how to locate answers in the textbook. Using the Science textbook is very new to the students -- please realize that the students will continue to locate answers in the book more easily (thus allowing greater success on worksheets). Students will also be asked to take their book home 2 nights when studying for a test – test dates will be noted in the assignment notebook..
Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at school (886-8010). I believe that the key to a successful school year is dependent upon the home-school connection. Let’s work together to make this the BEST year ever!
